It can be profitable to work as a freelance writer. In order to really make a career out of it, you will need to build a strong profile and a solid set of good consistent clients. With any freelance work, there is always the risk that you will not make money every day which is different from a regular nine to five job. If this is a factor that scares you, then freelance work may not be for you. However, if you set yourself up nicely, the work can be consistent and you can make enough money to stay and home and write.

The first thing you have to consider is whether or not writing is something that comes natural to you. There are some people that can easily write a paper on just about anything in the entire world. They know how to fit the sentences together and they are very good at explaining their thoughts. Others struggle with the words and can’t figure out how exactly to make their point. If you are the later, this will probably not be a very profitable venture for you.

The second thing to consider is how fast you can type. If you can type rather fast and even to the point that you don’t even have to look at the screen in order for you to successfully type, then this may work out for you. If you do the one finger typing method and it takes you a significant amount of time to type up a few paragraphs, either find a new career path or get one of those microphones that you speak into and it types the words for you.

The third thing to consider is how much time you have to put into your career choice. If you are fighting to stay afloat, then this may be something that you do in your spare time and not your everyday job. The reason being is that it may take you some time to build up a large enough set of clients to truly make enough money. You also need time to determine how much to charge individuals for your work. You want to charge them enough so that you can make a decent living. For example, if you can type up a four hundred word essay in fifteen minutes, and you charge four dollars an essay, you can expect to make sixteen dollars an hour. If you can only type one essay in an hour than you stand to make four dollars or charge fifteen for one article which will be hard to get constant work like that.

Freelance writing can be profitable if it is done correctly. You may just have to try it out to see if it is for you.
